Participation on „7th Balkan Botanical Congress“


During September, our employee participated at yet another event, but this time in Novi Sad (Serbia). From 10. – 14. September the 7th Balkan Botanical Congress was held, organized by the Department of Biology and Ecology (Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad) and Botanical Society “Andreas Wolny”. It is an international meeting for all interested in the flora and vegetation of the whole Balkan peninsula and it brings together researchers from all over Europe, to create a forum for networking, sharing knowledge and expertise, as well as creating new ideas and projects. The Congress has been happening every three years with pauses, since 1997, and covers various research fields: Plant Anatomy and Physiology, Plant Taxonomy and Systematics, Plant Molecular Biology and Genetics, Floristics, Vegetation and Phytogeography, Conservation Botany and Plant Invasions, Phytochemistry and Plant Resources, Agronomy and Forestry, Botanical Collections, History and Ethnobotany, together with Cryptogam Biology.


Luka Škunca participated with a poster presentation titled „Methodology for determining the conservation value of halophilous habitats based on floristic and vegetation parameters“, where he presented a methodology for conservation status assessment that can be very useful for vegetation conservation and habitat quality assessment. The methodology is presented through a case study of halophilous habitats.
